Power Rangers Goseiger Adaptation to Use Megaranger Scripts?
As many of you may know, Saban has already claimed copyrights to the titles "Power Rangers Megaforce" and "Power Rangers Ultra Megaforce." Both of them are rather, generic and uncreative titles. However, there are rumors going around that the upcoming Goseiger adaptation will be using a video game motif, and specifically Megaranger scripts. These rumors have come from Chris Funaro, a.k.a. Cmdr Crayfish, a long time Power Rangers fan and insider. Generally, Funaro is a reliable source. Here's what he said initially on rangercrew:
"My honest gut-instinct? We're gonna get Goseiger adapted heavily filtered through Megaranger after being told the angel theme was unusable. Recycling Mega scripts instead of Goseiger."
Furthermore, there's been leaked scripts of the main characters being high school students, which would match the Megaranger main cast. The leaked scripts can be downloaded below:
Professor Side
Pink Ranger Sophie
This would make sense of the title having the word "mega," as lame as it is. Discarding the angel motif isn't surprising, but instead of coming up with something original they've decide to disguise it by making a carbon-copy of an older Sentai. If they intended to outright copy Megaranger's scripts Saban would be spending a lot of money to make new footage. In particular with Jaden Sentai Nejiranger, whom were used as the Psycho Rangers during In Space and have absolutely no equivalent in Goseiger. Honestly, a video game themed Power Rangers series would be interesting, but the least they can do is make up their own friggen script.

Yeah..., one problem is that Megaranger doesn't really have any episode that deals with its video game motif. It's only used in a good number of the team's attacks and strategies... and I don't doubt Saban will keep the special effects and attacks from Goseiger.
ReplyDeleteMegaranger deals with the theme of youth and transition from adolescence to adulthood, so unless Saban makes the main characters high school students, then I don't see Mega's scripts working well with the Goseiger adaptation.
Okay, a video game motif; forgiving the fact that absolutely nothing in Goseiger screams out video game even removing the angel motif, that title needs to be changed. Outside of this community, who's going to get the reference? I could put Megaforce on a SWAT team, street gang or any other miscellaneous group and the name would work. A couple of titles off the top of my head are Joystick Rangers and maybe Electronic Rangers, IDK but that title, and the new one for that matter, just bug me.
ReplyDeleteThe card system was a 'giveaway' to use videogame motif. But aside of that I'm curious on how they're doing this. This'll be an unique attempt, and could probably be the RPM of Saban, now that we know Samurai is probably trying to carbon copy much. DIFFERENT approach like RPM gave gold, let's hope Megaforce, naming aside, would prove to be gold.
ReplyDeleteSaban actually made an RPM-like attempt during their first era of Power Rangers ownership. Coincidently it was with Megaranger, turning it into In Space, which also struck gold. I do like the video game motif but it would be great if they can come up with their own original scripts instead of "replacing carbon copying the most recent Sentai by carbon copying a much older Sentai."
ReplyDeleteCrud, forgot about In-Space. Yeah, it should be.
ReplyDeleteHowever, they should also be wary that it might not always be gold mine. I mean, look at Turbo...
I don't want to sound dismissive, but Saban should've stayed with the angel theme for the next generation of Power Rangers. If they discard the the whole celestial motif how will they incorporate the primary Villain, who is a fallen angel, into the English version?
ReplyDelete"Power Rangers Megaforce" is too generic.
but they are angel with cards
ReplyDeleteWell the Goseiger use cards...and that's based on a card game, so it can possibly work out. But just taking from Megarangers sounds like a bad move!
